Statements of Completion
Second and third-year business law students may develop a specialty in business, estate planning, intellectual property, international law, law and entrepreneurship and tax law. If you complete the program satisfactorily, you will receive a certificate of completion signed by designated faculty members and the dean. General statement of completion requirements:1. A Statement of Completion generally requires successful completion (grade C or better) of a number of designated courses in the specialty field. The offering of any of the courses varies from year to year and will depend on teacher availability and reasonable enrollment demand. The School of Law cannot guarantee that a student will be able to satisfy the requirements necessary for obtaining a particular Statement of Completion. Students may petition the members of a particular Statement of Completion Committee, generally comprising those professors who are permanently assigned to teach the required courses in each specialty, to seek approval of unlisted courses in the specialty area or for substitution of courses designated as approved for each Statement of Completion. 2. A Statement of Completion also generally requires successful completion of an academic research paper of high professional quality concerning the specialty subject matter. Advanced approval of the topic of the research paper must be obtained from the faculty members on the specific Statement of Completion Committee. The research paper may be fulfilled in conjunction with a course or seminar, must be equivalent in depth and quality to the School of Law's Writing Requirement, and may be used to satisfy that requirement. How to apply:1) Notify the Student Affairs office as soon as you have decided to apply (541-346-1558). 2) Obtain advance approval of a topic for a research paper for the Statement, and deliver the appropriate form to the Student Affairs Office as soon as the topic is approved; and 3) Third-year students should deliver the completed Statement of Completion form to the Student Affairs Office no later than February 7 of the year in which they expect to graduate. |
