Interested in law and business?

The Law and Entrepreneurship Student Association (LESA) is seeking applications for 2009-10 Board Members.

LESA is affiliated with the Center for Law and Entrepreneurship. The LESA Board is a group of students who work together to lead the broader student group, organize events throughout the year, and work with business law professors, alum and student colleagues at the UO graduate business program. Positions will open in Spring 2009 for the 2009-10 school year.

Applications: one-page letter of interest and a resume (NO class rank or GPA, please). Materials are due in mid-March. Current 1Ls and 2Ls with an interest in business law and entrepreneurship are encouraged to apply. The LESA review committee is looking for a demonstrated interest in LESA events and a willingness to assist with the organization of events that promote the unique aspects of business law.

New LESA Board Members will be announced by the end of March 2009.

A brief overview of a few of the events you can be involved in as a board member:

Law of Beer
Last October, LESA hosted its annual Law of Beer event. The panel of speakers included Jack Joyce of Rogue Brewery and Jeff Althouse from Willamette Brewery. The panel spoke to approximately 85 students on the legal issues relating to the brewery business, including distribution, trademarks, and establishing and planning a business start-up.

In-House Counsel Panel
It's a career path that offers worlds of opportunity to ambitious business law students - the role of corporate counsel. A panel discussion on the topic brings lawyers from corporations and law firms to the law school to talk about their experiences working as - and with - corporate counsel.

Intellectual Property Panel
Lawyers from various sectors discuss the importance of Intellectual Property in all aspects of business. This panel discussion benefits students interested in IP law, but also those with an interest in any sort of business law. Students learn how Copyrights, Trademarks, and Patents affect everyday entrepreneurs.

If you have any questions, please contact this year's co-chairs, Melissa Beyer and Tom Moseman, or visit the LESA website for more information.

The Mission of the Law and Entrepreneurship Students Association
Provide a forum for students to develop an understanding and appreciation of the connection between law and business. The association will coordinate events/lectures and work closely with the Center for Law and Entrepreneurship. It will also foster social interaction for students by sponsoring gatherings and recreational activities.
