Students Spring 2012

Aaron Crockett was born and raised in Salem, OR.  After graduating high school there, he did a 4-year stint in the Army as a tank crewmember before pursuing higher educating with the GI Bill.  Starting out at Chemeketa Community College, he graduated magna cum laude at WOU in 2007 with a major in Anthropology and a minor in Geology.

In law school, Aaron’s efforts have emphasized practical experience in both litigation and transactional settings.  While excelling in his class work, he interned in the Salem City Attorney’s Office and is now in his third semester working for the Lane County District Attorney’s office through the Prosecution Clinic.  Aaron has balanced this litigation-heavy experience by excelling in transactional skills like negotiation and will be a teaching assistant in Negotiation as part of the UO’s nationally recognized ADR program.

When not in school, Aaron has worked in diverse industries to make ends meet.  Airport security, construction, Medicare-supplement insurance processing, and shoe retail; every job is a new learning opportunity.  He looks forward using his diverse real-world experiences and legal skills to help local entrepreneurs build sustainable local economies.

Benjamin Hobson, a native of New Hampshire, received his BA in Finance and International Business and a minor in Spanish Language from the George Washington University. Prior to coming to law school, Ben worked four years in operational finance and spent several months with the Dani Tribe in Papua New Guinea.

Ben is an avid cider, beer, and wine maker. He is a certified Scuba diver, a stained glass artist, and a partial owner of a winery located in Lodi, CA.  Above being Co-Director for LESA, Ben is also a staff editor for the Journal of Environmental Law & Litigation, and a Career Center Advisory Board member. Ben is currently an extern for the Lane County District Attorney’s Office, but has entrepreneurial aspirations and hopes to use his law degree to help small business start out.

Kyle Ingram was born in the Philippines and grew up in a variety of locations across the United States.  He attended the University of Virginia and graduated with a BA in Economics.  After graduating, Kyle commissioned into the United States Air Force where he served as a contracting officer.

At the University of Oregon, Kyle has focused his legal studies on business and commercial law.  Aside from his coursework, Kyle has worked for Judge Charles Carlson at Lane County Circuit Court and Judge Robert E. Jones at the U.S. District Court in Portland, OR.

Nick Kiewik was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska.  While a student at the University of Colorado – Boulder, Nick worked in several political roles including campaign strategy and private funding research, before graduating with a BA in political science.  Before law school Nick worked on an Alaskan Congressional campaign, helped bring the Obama primary campaign to Anchorage, and taught high school classes.

He is currently in his third year at Oregon Law and primarily interested in transactional law, specifically corporate governance and mortgage foreclosures.  In addition to working with LESA, Nick is an executive board member of the Green Business Initiative, a faculty research assistant, and an editor of the Oregon Law Review.  He is currently interning at Lane County Legal Aid in the Civil Clinic, and he will join the Small Business Clinic in the spring.

Scott Marcinkus is a third-year law student at the University of Oregon.  In 2003, he received a BA in Geology from Boston University and then spent a year working on river systems with the Army Corps of Engineers.  Over the next few years Scott worked as a station and revenue manager for Hertz rental car before returning to the environmental field as an environmental scientist working on environmental assessments, regulatory compliance, and remediation.  Due to his interests in energy and real estate development, Scott has focused his course studies on both business and environmental law.  He has spent the past two summers in Washington, DC assisting the Department of the Interior and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission with various federal legal issues, gaining a better understanding of the energy markets and developing energy technologies.  After law school, Scott hopes to work within the energy or real estate fields and eventually open his own consulting or development business.

Andrea Maroney was born and raised in the San Francisco bay area.  She attended U.C. Davis where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Genetics with a minor in psychology.  Between college and law school, she worked at Cornell Medical College in New York City where she researched gene therapy as an experimental treatment for certain genetic disorders.  While in New York, Andrea also worked as a volunteer team leader for New York Cares, serving as a liaison between nonprofit organizations and interested volunteers.  Andrea has many family connections in Oregon and is excited to be pursuing her law degree at the University of Oregon.

In law school, Andrea is primarily focusing on business law, tax and estate planning, and intellectual property.  She currently serves as an Associate Editor for the Oregon Law Review.  In the summer of 2011, she interned at the San Francisco City Attorney’s office, where she assisted city attorneys with litigation preparation and transactional work.  Andrea is looking forward to spending her last semester of law school working with Eugene’s small business community.

Kira O’Connor was born in Anchorage, Alaska, moved to Portland, Oregon, followed by Warren, Ohio, and then her family settled in Kailua, Hawaii. In high school Kira worked as an On-Air Personality at a Clear Channel radio station while also working at The Mountain Apple Company, an independent record label. While she earned her bachelor’s degree in Media Studies/Mass Communications at the University of California, Berkeley she worked at Universal Music Group and hosted a weekly online TV Show on CalTV.

Kira has been involved with several student groups, serving as the Managing Director for the Sports and Entertainment Law Forum; Editor-in-Chief for the Legality; member of the Green Business Initiative and Minority Law Student Association. Kira is currently a co-host on the University’s first law school radio show, Full Disclosure. Kira spent her first summer as a Research Assistant for Professor Priest working on copyright issues and working for a Media Policy company, AccessNow. Her second summer was spent in Austin, Texas working at LIVESTRONG.

Kira is thrilled to be working with Eugene’s small business community to find new and creative ways to achieve their goals!

Andrew Paris was born and raised in Northeast Portland.  He attended Central Catholic High School where he ran for the Track and Field and Cross Country teams.  In 2005, Andrew moved to Spokane, Washington where he attended Gonzaga University.  At Gonzaga, he earned a B.A. in Political Science with an emphasis in International Politics.  As an Undergraduate, Andrew had the opportunity to work in Portland City Hall and studied abroad in Florence, Italy.

Andrew returned to Oregon in 2009 to attend the University of Oregon School of Law.  During law school, he became interested in Contracts, Business Law, and International Business Law. Alongside his studies, Andrew has been heavily involved in the Law School’s new moot court competitions, sitting on the board for the International Moot Court team since 2010 and serving as director of the Trademark Moot Court team for the 2011-2012 school year.  He also reached the semi-finals of the law school Negotiations Competition.  Last summer, Andrew worked as an in-house counsel intern for Vestas American Wind Technologies.  His work there included real estate and sales contract work, employment issues, and OSHA compliance.
